Granitbock Cherry-Whisky-Cask

You know that feeling when you reach into

a box of chocolates and pick the exact one

you were hoping for? Well, hold on tight –

that moment now comes in liquid form.

Our Granitbock had the chance to experience something truly special. After being caramelised with glowing-hot granite stones, it moved into a French oak cask for over 14 months. And this cask already had quite a story to tell: first, it was used to mature three batches of single malt whisky (whisky from a single distillery, made exclusively from malted barley), followed by a cherry finish. A finish is the final touch, where the cask is filled with cherry whisky once again to let it soak up plenty of fruity character. So this cask has been through quite a lot – and you can taste it.

In the glass, it shimmers with a subtle reddish hue. The nose immediately reveals where this journey is heading: ripe cherries, delicate vanilla and, if you give it a few minutes, a hint of tonka bean.

The first sip is smooth and pleasantly sweet, before the cherry comes rolling in in all its glory. A subtle acidity briefly shines through, reminiscent of tart sour cherries, balancing the sweetness at just the right moment. On the finish, the cherry lingers on the palate for a long time, accompanied by chocolate and a delicate bitterness reminiscent of high-quality cocoa. Velvety, smooth and surprisingly harmonious. The alcohol is barely noticeable, while the pleasure is all the more intense.

Perfect pairings: dark chocolate, chocolate desserts and, of course, Black Forest gateau. It also makes a great match for rich game dishes or well-aged cheese.

It’s at its best when shared. Set the glasses on the table, make yourselves comfortable, gather the people closest to your heart and share the bottle.

And with only 535 bottles available, you shouldn’t take too long to decide. Who knows – in the end, the Black Forest gateau might disappear faster than the beer.
