Granitbock Plum-Whisky-Cask

Imagine Grandma cooking up her finest

plum compote, with vanilla, a hint of exquisite

spices and that secret ingredient she’ll never reveal.

Now imagine all that goodness finding its way into a

beer made for exactly this moment. That’s the taste of

our barrel-aged Granitbock from Cask No. 40.

The legendary 2024 Granitbock is caramelised with glowing-hot granite stones, giving it its depth and rounded sweetness. It then spent over 14 months maturing in a French oak cask made by Alain Fouquet. Before that, the cask had held a mirabelle plum whisky. Mirabelles are small, golden-yellow cousins of the plum, as sweet as honey. And a little of that sweetness still lingers in every stave – the wooden planks that make up a cask.

The cask was made with a medium toast, and the heads were toasted too. In other words, the inside of the wood was carefully charred, much like a slice of bread in a toaster – only with a little more patience and a whole lot more aroma. This brings notes of vanilla, gentle roastiness and a delicate warmth of oak to the beer.

As soon as you pour it, aromas rise from the glass, somewhere between festive punch and chocolate-covered plums, with subtle hints of tobacco and toasted whisky. The first sip is fruity and sweet, then things turn warm and wonderfully comforting. Bitterness? Nowhere to be found. Alcohol? Just enough to leave a pleasant tingle. On the finish, the roasted notes return and wrap you in warmth from the inside out – a little like those tiny bottles of spirits that used to hang on the Christmas tree back in the day.
